The lame before the king
To be lame means: to be Crippled or disabled in a limb, or otherwise injured so as to be unsound and impaired in strength; to be weak, disabled or ineffective.
We know from chapter 4:4 how he became lame. And we learn from Genesis 3 how we became lame. And so long as we are in our flesh we will have to deal with this weakness that seeks to have the rule over us. We see here in our text how Mephibosheth's condition had been used against him but what had happened had never been his intention. So what he is doing here is coming before his king and confessing what had happened. He wasn't looking for vengeance just forgiveness for his own failure in the matter.
