Thanksgiving and Thankfulness – How To Live Gratitude To God
What does it mean when you stop saying “Thank you”? When did faith change from our trusting God to our getting God to do our will? When did prayers of Thanksgiving change from a relationship with God to a response to God? This skewed view of thanksgiving results in such abuses as – Thanking God before we actually receive our request and rewarding God with our thanks when he performs up to our expectations. You see We do not “thank God” based on His response to our commands
1 Thessalonians 5:17-18 pray without ceasing; in everything give thanks; for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus.
My early struggles with this verse were based on my own selfishness and a warped view of my relationship with God. Thanksgiving does not center around me, my prayer life, my faith and God's willingness to conform to my will and my commands.
We love God not the answer to our prayers
We love God not the gifts
It is not that we love the Giver, not the gift
Rather we love God who first loved us , not the response to our commands
God does not need to earn our faith nor our love by His actions. It is too late…
Romans 5:8
But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
