Pleasant Heights Baptist Church is dedicated to a return to biblical Christianity. Biblical Christianity is "real" because it is God-centered. . . . it is the absolute affirmation that it is about God, not us.
Sadly, over the years many evangelical churches have lost their focus on sound doctrine (Titus 1:9), and as a result, they have developed a view of God that significantly lessens His greatness. In many ways, God has been reduced to a benevolent grandfather and/or magic genie; in this view, God simply loves people and winks at their sin, or if His "lamp is rubbed" the right way, He will grant their wishes and fix their problems. This view relegates God to the position of man's servant; His primary purpose is to make people happy and take care of their problems when they feel they need Him. While Jesus clearly taught us that He came that we may have life and have it abundantly (literally, to the full), His point was not our health, wealth, and welfare. An abundant life is a life that is God-centered, a life doing what we were created to do -- glorify God.
Because we were created to glorify God, we will find our greatest joy and fulfillment doing just that. While this should be our greatest aim and the very focus of our lives, most are focused on themselves. Living for oneself ultimately brings despondency, disappointment, and more depravity. Living for God, as we were originally designed, is the only way people can have true joy; it is the only way we can be "real".
