Something to Consider
The Revelation frequently draws on visual images found in the OT prophets and Thetwowitnesses in Rev 11are no different. They can be spoken of in Zech 4.
Rev 11:3-4 And I will givepowerunto mytwo witnesses, and they shall prophesy a thousand two hundredandthreescore days, clothed in sackcloth. These arethe two olive trees, and the two candlesticks standing before the God of the earth.
Zech 4:3 And two olive trees by it, one upon the rightsideof the bowl, and the other upon the leftsidethereof.
Zech 4:11 Then answered I, and said unto him, Whatarethese two olive trees upon the rightsideof the candlestick and upon the leftsidethereof?
Zech 4:14 Then said he, Thesearethe two anointed ones, that stand by the Lord of the whole earth.
There are too many references found in the prophets to attempt to interpret the Revelation stand alone (post 96AD) without the context of the referenced prophets.
God inspired John to write what he did and had a purpose in drawing on the prophets. It is for us to learn that purpose if we hope to properly interpret the Revelation.
