Dead to the law and alive in Christ
This war goes back to Eden. Then the serpent said to the woman, “You will not surely die. For God knows that in the day you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”
Can we really have a righteousness apart from faith in our God? If we know what God knows, can we be like him? Through the law? No. And what did Adam and Eve lose or simply give up? The Spirit of life that had been breathed into them in Gen. 2:7. The absence of life is death. And who is the only life-giving Spirit? Christ himself. And since there is no law that can give life, righteousness will never come through it. (Gal. 2:21, 3:21-22). So it doesn't matter whether you are a Jew who has the law or a Gentile who has no law. We are released from all law since Christ literally fulfilled them entirely with the sacrifice of himself. (Rom. 7:1-6) God's righteousness is manifested apart from the law. (Rom. 3:21) and what law is the guide for the believer in Christ. The law of faith. (Rom. 3:27)
