A Conversation with the Almighty

Here at this time in the history of the nation of Israel, God was showing the sinners in Zion the implications of their sins. He was going to bring the Chaldeans against them to judge them, for their having departed from Him in their hearts and in their worship. He was testing and sifting all of the hearts of all the people of Israel. Jeremiah confesses God to be righteous in verse 1, but He desires to speak with Him about the particulars of what He was doing. “Why does the way of the wicked prosper?”, he asks. Why does the sovereign God permit wicked men to prosper and be happy? Perhaps this is a question which has come to your mind as well. This afternoon we want to enter into the room with Jeremiah and God and listen to their conversation. For it is a conversation about God purposes and the way that He brings His judgments. During this conversation we will hear, 1st of all, a question painfully presented. (verses 1-4) 2nd – We will hear an answer personally applied. (verses 5-13) And 3rd – We will hear a declaration of promise, hopefully considered. (verses 14-17) Let us remember that our God is a God who we can talk with in the most intimate way; reverently telling Him the deepest of our concerns.
