The Necessity of Faith

The people of Jesus' former home town of Nazareth see him return. They have a dilemma. They know Jesus is a man, but they see and hear things to the contrary. They must decide who is he. Their conclusion is utterly wrong, and it leads to them despising him. Jesus refuses to perform miracles where there's no faith, and in doing this he upholds faith as necessary in God's work. It is the means by which God saves, and an absense of faith in God in a society is fatal.
