Mystery of Contentment -- Part 2

Mr. Carroll treats Burroughs' points 8–11 on the mystery of contentment, focusing on how the Christian is to view all of life—both blessings and sufferings—as "the due of God's blessing." He gives extended exposition of Joseph's story (Genesis 45 and 50) to illustrate the doctrine of concurrence: that God sovereignly ordains events through the hands of wicked men for purposes His people may not understand until much later, if ever. The lesson examines 1 Peter 4:12–19 (do not think trials strange), Romans 5:1–5 (tribulation produces perseverance, character, and hope), and John 9 (the man born blind) to argue that God never provides justification or rationale for individual suffering but sanctifies it for conformity to Christ.
