Watchfulness and the Second Coming

Intro: The place of watchfulness in the Christian life generally

Five motives to be watchful in relation to Christ's return:

1. Jesus brings a prepared glory for a prepared people
2. Jesus will shake things up, so by grace protect what is prized against loss
3. Jesus leaves us in care for what is important in the kingdom:
   a. Gives us authority
   b. Calls to serve HIS household
   c. Will richly reward this service when he returns
4. We are tempted in this meantime to live for ourselves if we do not consider his return
5. Our watchfulness is conditioned by the great gain and great loss at stake
