Can You Hear the Great Trumpet?
Series The Gospel of Matthew
Intro: All orthodox eschatological views have certain things in common.
Should add, that each have in common their own set of strengths and weaknesses!
This passage in isolation from context would mean: a cosmic, heaven-and-earth, universal, visible, angelic-accompanying, gathering of the elect from all over, at the parousia, or coming of the Son of Man.
Nestling this in the backdrop of 70AD does not have to change this
- A Heaven-Quake - 29; see Is. 13:9-13; 34:1-6; Hag. 2:6, 21-22; Heb. 12:25-29; 2 Pet. 3:3-14 - all of which ties into where Christ is leading - as in the days of Noah
- The Retunr of the Son of Man upon the Clouds - 30 See Dan. 7:7-14; Mat. 16:27; 26:63-64; 25:31-33; Act 1:9-11; Rev. 1:7 - the wicked will dread His appearance (Rev 19:11-19)
- The Believing Peoples Rejoice - 31 See Jude 1:14-15; Mat 13:40-43; 1 Cor 15:51-53; 1 Thess 4:13-18; 2 Thess 1:6-10
Conclusion:
- A Hermeneutical Remark
- A Theological Remark
