Confrontation at the Feast of Dedication

This context advances the timeframe from the Feast of Booths to the Feast of Dedication, but continues the same general setting of the Jerusalem temple and a confrontation between Jesus and Israel's rulers. In terms of John's account, this episode effectively closed out Jesus' public self-disclosure and formed the climax of Israel's response to that disclosure. Jesus would not return to Jerusalem until He did so as her king coming to condemn her and pronounce His desolating sentence upon her and the nation she represented.
